Sightseeing

Explore Hanover

The diverse Hanover offers special attractions for everyone: outdoor leisure and sporting activities at the Maschsee, lots of biking routes or the city forest Eilenriede – Germanys biggest urban forest.

Baroque spirits in the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen:  the „Great Garden“ features within its 50 hectares Europes biggest fountain, over 70 meters! Herrenhausen Palace is not the only witness of a baroque court. Eight small special gardens in the middle and pavilions at the southern corner are carrying you away in the golden age of Hanover. At special appointments (or for groups) Electress Sophie guides you through her beloved garden!

Architectural highlights of 500 years beneath the hotel: only in the historic old town one can admire the typical german half-timbered houses and a few renaissance buildings. All over the city you can explore neo-gothic brick buildings, a typical feature of our city:  this style was invented in Hanover in the 19th century  (Hanoverian school of architecture).

Art city Hanover: the streets are paved with art. Stroll the sculpture trail alongside the Leine river bank or visit the Landesmuseum with more than 300 other pieces of Niki de Saint-Phalle.

The Sprengelmuseum, Kestnergesellschaft or “Kunstverein Hannover” offer more objects of modern art.

Dome lift with parabolic elevator

The new town hall (opened in 1913) is often considered as Hannover’s finest masterpiece of architecture.  The building resembles a castle and has several models of the former city inside. A very unique elevator lifts you up to the viewing platform. The elevator changes the angle of the inclination, following the curve of the dome – a unique masterpiece of german engineering!

Up at 50 meters you will finde the best conditions for your memory photos – with the Harz Mountains in the background on a clear day!

Please check the current opening times of the elevator before visiting.
